Multiple myeloma cancer cell research. Micrograph of multiple myeloma tumour cells (green) and bone cells (red) growing on a scaffold made of silk protein (purple), designed to resemble bone material. Multiple myeloma is a cancer of the plasma cells of the blood. This research aimed to understand how multiple myeloma cells grow in bone. Cancer cells grow, migrate, and resist therapy very differently in 3D versus 2D culture conditions. Here, by using a patient's own cells, this models enables efficient screening of patient-specific responses to treatments and therapies. | |
