Kyphoscoliosis. View of a man's back showing the condition of kyphoscoliosis,in which the spine curves abnormally both forwards and sideways. This deformity is a combination of kyphosis (causing hunching of the backbone) and scoliosis (lateral deviation of the spine). The condition of kypho- scoliosis may occur during growth for no apparent reason (congenital),or may result from a number of diseases involving the vertebrae,spinal nerves and muscles. The diseases include: osteochondritis or ankylosing spondylitis,and in the elderly following senile osteoporosis.
