Rex Smith airplane. Waterside test flights of an early biplane that was designed and built by the Rex Smith Aeroplane Company. This aviation company was founded by Rex Smith (1862-1923) in 1910 and went defunct in 1916. It produced the Rex Smith Biplane,powered by an Emerson 2-cycle,six-cylinder engine. The airplane had two propellers and a wingspan of 12 metres. It was flown by test pilot Tony Jannus (1889-1916). Test flights of this aircraft were from College Park airfield,Maryland,USA,where the Wright Military Flyers were also flown. Photographed in 1912 | |
