Horticulture experiment on the ISS. Zinnia flower being grown inside the Veggie facility on the International Space Station (ISS). This flowering crop experiment began on 16 November 2015,when NASA astronaut Kjell Lindgren activated the Veggie system and its rooting 'pillows' containing Zinnia seeds. This allowed scientists back on Earth to study how plants grow in microgravity. Russian and US scientists have been doing plant research in space since the late 1970s.
