Toxic epidermal necrolysis patient in ICU. Patient with toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital. TEN is a rare but life-threatening dermatological condition in which the top layer of skin (epidermis) detaches itself from the lower layers (dermis). Often caused by a reaction to medication,the keratinocyte cells in the lower epidermis die (necrosis). These cells specialise in holding the skin together. This patient has respiratory failure and is on an artificial ventilator,which is passing air to his lungs through a tracheotomy in his throat. He is also receiving tube feeding through an orogastric tube
