Diverticulitis is the formation of pouches within the intestinal wall. Here,the pouch ruptured,requiring surgery. A ileostomy is a surgical procedure where a stoma is formed by bringing the healthy end of the small intestine (ileum) through the abdominal wall and fixing it in place. They can be permanent or temporary and are commonly used where a section of the bowel has been removed (resected),or where a section of the colon has been operated on and needs to be 'rested' until it is healed and can be re-connected. Here,the patient had part of their colon removed (hemicolectomy)
