West Indian manatees. Female West Indian manatee or sea cow (Trichechus manatus) and calves. Usually one calf is born after a gestation of around a year. The younger calf is seen at lower centre,with its older sibling at right. West Indian manatees live in rivers,estuaries and coastal waters around the Caribbean Sea. They are entirely herbivorous,eating a wide variety of water plants in both fresh and saltwater.
