A lynx yawning. Similar in appearance to a large house cat, lynx can reach over a meter in length and weigh almost 50 kilograms. They are known for the long black tufts on each of their ears, and also have large furry paws which help spread their body weight over the snow. They are solitary animals, meeting only during the breeding season. Lynx are mainly nocturnal, and eat hares, rabbits, small deer and birds. They inhabit territories which may cover up to 100 square kilometers where prey is scarce. Lynx live in forests in eastern Europe and Asia, and in the northern parts of North America | |
