Bengal tigers. Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) playing with her cub. Tigers give birth to between two and four young after a gestation period lasting around three and a half months. The cubs only leave their den after two months, but stay with their mothers for up to five years. It is known for an adult male to join a mother and her cubs on hunts and at kills. Tigers generally feed on large mammals such as wild boar, deer and buffalo. They also take other carnivores, including jungle cats. After eating their fill, tigers hide a big carcass under foliage and grass and rest nearby, driving off any scavengers. They typically live in dens under trees or in rocks | |
