Grey wolf. Grey wolf (Canis lupus) snarling during feeding. The bared teeth and flattened ears are aggressive signals. Grey wolves feed on large mammals such as deer, elk and wild sheep. They hunt these animals as a pack,as they are too large to be tackled by an individual wolf. Wolf packs consist of five to 15 individuals. They are found throughout the northern regions of the world, and further south in Asia. The pack is led by a dominant couple. Wolves are coursers, that is,they run for hours while hunting. They have been known to cover 60 kilometres in a day. Photographed in Montana,USA | |
