Grey wolf pack. View of a pack of grey or timber wolves (Canis lupus) sleeping in the snow. Grey wolves live in packs of five to 15 individuals led by a dominant couple. They are found throughout much of Asia and North America. Wolves are coursers, that is,they run for hours while hunting. They have been known to cover 60 kilometres in a day. As a pack, they hunt herbivores such as deer, elk, bison and mountain sheep that are too large to be tackled by individual wolves. Wolves take smaller animals, such as beavers, and also threaten domestic animals, which has led to their persecution in some areas | |
