Baby Western Lowland Gorillas (G. gorilla gorilla) are born helpless and must be carried in the mother's arms. Once delivered,a newborn weighs 1.5 to 2 kg. Growing at twice the rate of a human babies,gorilla infants are able to crawl and ride their mother's back at 3 months of age.
