Grooming rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta). These social primates live in groups of up to 200 individuals, consisting of a few unrelated males and many closely-related females and their offspring. Mutual grooming helps to reinforce relationships within the group. Rhesus monkeys are found in western Afghanistan through India to northern Thailand. However, they are also kept in captivity worldwide. They are omnivorous, feeding on roots, herbs, fruit, insects and small animals. Photographed in India | |
