Golden lion tamarin or marmoset (Leontopithecus rosalia) sitting in a tree. This tamarin takes its name from its striking colour and the "mane" of hair around its head, said to resemble that of a lion. It inhabits forests on the foothills of coastal mountains in eastern South America. It lives in small groups in the treetops, and is adept at moving through the thin branches. The golden lion tamarin is omnivorous, eating fruits as well as insects, lizards and small birds. It may grow to a body length of around 50 centimetres, which is almost doubled by their tail.
