Red kangaroo. Red kangaroo (Macropus rufus,or Megaleia rufa) jumping. It can cover five metres with a single leap and can travel at up to 65 kilometres per hour in short bursts. It is the largest marsupial,a type of primitive mammal which gives birth to underdeveloped young which are then reared in a pouch. The red kangaroo lives in large groups (or mobs) throughout the arid grasslands of Australia. It eats grass and other low plants.
