Marsh wren (Cistothorus palustris) singing in spring. This small bird inhabits freshwater and brackish marshes with surrounding reed beds and grasses. It is found throughout much of North America,breeding in the west,around the Great Plains and the Great Lakes,and in scattered areas of the north-east. It spends the winter in the southern and western USA and parts of Mexico. It feeds on insects,which it takes from plants and the surface of the water.
