Anna's hummingbird. Anna's hummingbird (Calypte anna) feeding from a hibiscus flower. It remains stationary by the flower with rapid beats of its wings while it feeds on nectar with its long bill. Anna's hummingbirds are solitary, aggressive birds which inhabit woodland and gardens in western North America. Hummingbirds feed on insects and nectar. They can beat their wings extremely fast and are famous for their ability to hover. They can even fly backwards. Their agile flight also makes them superb at catching insects.
