Sharp-shinned hawk (Accipiter striatus) perched on a branch. This small hawk is found in woodland throughout North America. It feeds mainly on songbirds, which it catches in short, fast chases. Some birds, such as starlings and swallows, mob this hawk, surrounding it and diving on it in mock attacks. The sharp-shinned hawk can reach a length of around 27 centimetres.
