Peregrine falcon. Peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus) taking off from a snow-covered rock. This falcon hunts by flying high above its victim, usually another bird in flight. It dives, striking the victim in passing with its feet. The falcon will then catch the falling bird and carry it away. During the dive it is thought to reach speeds of up to 400 kilometres an hour. The peregrine falcon is found throughout the world, breeding in all continents except Antarctica. Photographed in Colorado,USA | |
