Emperor penguin. Emperor penguin (Aptenodytes forsteri) in front of an ice formation. This is the largest penguin, reaching over 120 cm in height. Like all penguins it is flightless, using its wings to swim through the water after fish and squid. Penguins have insulating layers of fat and waterproof plumage to allow them to survive the extreme cold of their coastal Antarctic habitat. Photographed in November | |
