Jackson's chameleons. Male Jackson's chameleon (Chamaeleo jacksonii) with a young chameleon clin- ging to its back. In the female, the horns are absent or only weakly developed. While this chameleon is native to the highland forests of eastern Africa,it has been introduced to other areas, such as Hawaii,USA. The colour of the skin of a chameleon alters according to its emotional state,as well as environmental factors such as temperature. Its long sticky tongue enables it to capture insects at a large distance. The toes of each foot are in two opposed groups and the tail is prehensile (grasping),both adaptions for arboreal life | |
