Gecko. A tokay gecko (Gekko gecko) with a doubly- regenerated tail. When this lizard is startled,it can drop its tail (autotomy) to confuse and occupy predators. The tail grows back with a rod of cartilage in place of the lost bones of the spine. In this case, however, the tail has grown two ends from one break point, which is rare. The tokay grows to a length of 40cm,and is often found in or near houses. They are mainly nocturnal, with a diet that consists of insects and small rodents. The tokay gekko is found throughout India and South-East Asia, and in Java and Malaysia the presence of a tokay in a house is regarded as a symbol of good fortune | |
