Crocodile. Head of a crocodile (Crocodylus sp.). Its sharp teeth are used to grasp prey such as fish, turtles, mammals and birds, but not for chewing. Its armoured skin is formed from large partially-ossified horny plates. Crocodiles generally live near fresh water shores in tropical and subtropical parts of the world. They move through the water with snake-like movements of their body, assisted by their powerful tails. Some species can grow over seven metres in length. Photographed in Thailand | |
