North American bullfrog (Rana catesbeiana) sitting on a rock next to a water lily flower (Nymphaea odorata). This frog is found throughout North America in lakes,rivers and marshes. An adult may reach nearly 50 centimetres in length,making it the largest frog in North America. The bullfrog eats worms,snakes,insects,crustaceans and even other bullfrogs. They are known for the males' rumbling calls,which can be heard for over a kilometre. Males are territorial and defend their stretch of river or lake shore with considerable aggression.
