Young leopard frog. Young leopard frog (Rana pipiens) resting on a leaf. The leopard frog is terrestrial, apart from during the breeding season when mature female frogs lay eggs in still freshwater. The tadpoles that hatch from this frogspawn metamorphose into adult frogs after three months. Leopard frogs are found in much of North America and mainly eat insects.
