Land snail moving along a plant stem. A land snail is any snail that lives on land. The snail is a gastropod; a class of mollusc with a one-piece coiled shell and flattened muscular foot with a head bearing tentacles. The shell protects the snail's soft unsegmented body and the snail will retreat inside its shell when alarmed. The land snail moves using its muscular foot, aided by the secretion of mucus from a gland in the foot. There are two pairs of tentacles on a land snail's head. The larger pair has light-sensitive eyespots, while the samller pair is used for smell and touch | |
