Spanish shawl sea slug (Flabellina iodinea) on algae. This sea slug,or nudibranch, inhabits the waters of the eastern Pacific Ocean, from Canada to the Galapagos Islands. It feeds mainly on hydroids,coral-like organisms. Its body is covered in long cerata (orange),which act as its main respiratory surface,as it has no gills. As well as the cerata,it has two rhinophores (red- tipped, centre right),with which it detects chemicals in the water. Two long antennae are seen at centre and lower right. This sea slug can reach a length of up to three centimetres | |
