Sonoran tiger centipede (Scolopendra polymorpha) specimen. Centipedes are arthropods with elongated bodies with one pair of legs per segment. The Sonoran tiger centipede grows up to 13 centimetres long and its colouring warns predators that it is dangerous. This centipede is a swift nocturnal predator which kills its prey using powerful venom administered from forelegs that have been modified to function as fangs (top).
