Lobster. American lobster (Homarus americanus) on the seabed. This large crustacean inhabits the sea floor off the eastern coast of North America. It is nocturnal, hiding in a den during the day and emerging at night to feed on invertebrates and to scavenge. They may reach a length of over a metre, although this is now rare due to extensive fishing for their tasty meat. Photographed in the Gulf of Maine,USA | |
