Carbon fibre fabric. Part of a piece of fabric made by weaving carbon fibres (black). The white fibres are added to the edge of the weave to prevent fraying. The fabric is used in the manufacture of composite components. The sheet is laid into a mould, and a binding agent, normally an epoxy polymer,is added and pressure is applied. When set,the polymer/carbon fibre composite has excellent strength but with a lighter weight than equivalent metal components. This type of process is used in the aerospace and motor vehicle industries for the manufacture of non-structural panels | |
