An experimental compressor fan for a future jet engine, made by the Pratt & Whitney company. This compressor fan has a set of wide-chord swept blades. These allow much faster inlet air velocities (much as fighters have swept-back wings). Faster inlet velocities allow much more efficient compression of air being fed into a high-speed military jet engine, and thus lead to significant reduction of fuel consumption. This assembly was designed under the US Air Force's Improved High Pressure Turbine Engine Technology (IHPTET) programme | |
