A full-size side elevation view of a Chrysler car, generated by a computer-aided design (CAD) package. CAD is an important tool in industrial design. Small changes to the detailed design may be made rapidly, and the effect on the rest of the design calculated almost instantly. Here, design engineers are evaluating the latest version of a new car. In addition to the design itself, the computer has added an 'average'-sized driver and passenger to the drawing. It would appear from this that some re-thinking of rear headroom will be required. Once the design is finalised, the CAD data may be used to set production tools in the factory | |
