Battery and light bulb. Second of two images using a battery and light bulb to demonstrate an electric circuit. The light bulb is attached to the upper end of the battery which has a positive electrical potential. The lower end of the battery is negative and has a wire attached to it. This second wire is connected to the casing of the light bulb. This means that there is a complete circuit from the positive to the negative ends of the battery; the circuit is said to be "closed". This allows a current to flow, lighting the bulb. If the wire was disconnected from the bulb, the gap between them would prevent the current from flowing. (See also T194/385) | |
