This is an early eosinophil,a white blood cell of the polymorphonuclear leukocytes subgroup. Its diameter is approximately 10 micrometers. The nucleus is compact without marked evidence of lobulation. The cytoplasm contains distinctive relatively large round eosinophilic granules. The crystalloid structure of the granules imparts a refractivity to the granule which presents a lighter appearing center to the granule that occurs at different levels of focus.
