Hyaline cartilage. Light micrograph of a section through hyaline cartilage. Hyaline cartilage is a semi-rigid type of connective tissue. The rounded cells (pink) are chondrocytes, each with an obvious nucleus (black dot). The chondrocytes synthesize an extracellular matrix (purple) that keeps them apart from each other in spaces known as lacunae. Hyaline cartilage provides structural support to various parts of the body such as the windpipe (trachea). Magnification x400 at 35mm size | |
