| MODEL RELEASED. Cystic fibrosis. A cystic fibrosis (CF) patient receives percussive therapy to help loosen mucus in the lungs. A nurse is holding an electric device on the patient's back. This emits vibrations that will help the patient to cough up mucus. CF is a hereditary disease that impairs the function of exocrine glands. One result of this is the formation of a thick,sticky mucus that clings to the airways of the lungs and causes per- sistent respiratory infections. Treatment for CF includes antibiotics and regular percussive ther- apy. Gene therapy is currently under development | |
