Non-invasive brain scanning using a Neuromagnetometer, which measures magnetic fields generated outside the scalp from nerve cell activity within the brain. The system is based upon highly sensitive magnetic field detectors known as "squids" (superconducting quantum interference devices),housed in the two cylindrial units above the person's head. Data from up to 40 sites around the brain is processed and displayed by computer. Photographed at New York University Medical Centre | |
