MODEL RELEASED. CT brain scanning. Male patient about to undergo a Computed Tomography (CT) brain scan. His head is secured in a brace in order to keep it still; the circular CT scanner is seen through which his head will pass. A radiographer instructs and reassures the patient before leaving to operate the scanner from a computer control room. CT scanning relies on the attenuation of a series of X-ray beams by body tissues, passed through the subject from numerous points around the circular scanner. CT scans display good contrast between soft tissues in the body. Typical applications are in the location of a tumour or blood haemorrhage in the brain | |
