Learning difficulties. View of a young handicapped boy being taught to read and write by a teacher. He may be suffering from dyslexia. Dyslexia,(or word blindness) is a developmental disorder affec- ting a child's ability to read and write. It is not indicative of low intelligence & may be prese- nt in 1 person in 20. It can create serious educa- tional problems but responds well to treatment in which the child is encouraged to practise reading & writing skills as much as possible. Alternative- ly this child may be mentally handicapped,or a physical handicap may have held him back at school. Photographed at the Kennedy Institute for Handicapped Children,in the USA | |
