Sinus- itis is an inflammation of the sinuses (air spaces lined with mucous membrane) located above,between and beneath the eyes in the facial bones. They connect with the nose. Here,the frontal sinuses (blue) above the eyes are infected. Sinusitis is mostly caused by infection spreading from the nose; the disorder usually results from bacterial infection of the mucous membrane that develops as a complication of viral infection,such as a cold.
