This colour enhanced axial (cross section) CT of the brain was obtained after a patient was resuscitated from a cardiac arrest. There are symmetrical areas of purple in the deep regions of the brain (the basal ganglia) which represents areas of infarction (stroke) due to lack of blood flow as a result of the cardiac arrest.
