MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) showing a lateral (from the side) view of a brain arterial venous malformation (AVM). The AVM is the round black density in the middle of the brain. An AVM is a congenital malformation of the blood vessels that can rupture and bleed inside of the head and cause seizures,headaches,stroke-like symptoms,and other fatal complications. Treatment of an AVM often combines traditional neurosurgery,endovascular neurosurgery (through the blood vessels) and radiation therapy (gamma knife technique)
