Palaeontologist at work. The rock surrounding the bones seen here has to be slowly chipped away, revealing as much of the specimen as possible without risking any damage. Once freed from the rock, the bone may be removed to a laboratory for cleaning. Bones found in close proximity may be from the same animal,so careful cataloguing is required to facilitate later reconstruction work. The palaeontologist is seen here working on part of a leg, also visible are long curved ribs and part of a tail (top centre). Photographed in the Dinosaur National Monument Park,USA | |
