Pacaya volcano erupting. Night view of an eruption of Pacaya volcano in Guatemala. Lava can be seen streaming down the side of the volcano from a vent on its side. Pacaya is a stratovolcano which stands 2552 metres tall and has been erupting constantly since 1965. This is a Strombolian eruption,a steady ejection of material without any real violence, although lava may still be thrown a considerable distance by the eruptions. This type of eruption is named after the volcano Stromboli in Italy, which has been erupting constantly for over 2000 years | |
