Barred spiral galaxy NGC 2903,composite image. This galaxy lies around 20.5 million light years from Earth in the constellation Leo. It has a bright nucleus and several bright starbirth regions in its spiral arms. These glow pink as the hydrogen gas they contain is ionised by radiation from the hot young stars born within them. The data for this image was obtained by the Hubble Space Telescope and the 3.5-meter WIYN telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory | |
