Virtopsy robot scanner. Mannequin corpse being scanned in blue light by the Virtopsy robot, the Virtobot,at the Institute for Forensic Medicine,Zurich,Switzerland, with a researcher at right. A modified industrial robot is used to make comprehensive digital imagery of a body using a mounted Nikon D800 camera, and 3D scanner using blue light. A needle placement module also allows for automated biopsy samples guided by computed tomography (CT) scans. Combined with a full CT scan and post-mortem angiography, this technology can act as a triage system for conventional autopsies rendering many of them unnecessary. Photographed in 2016 | |
