European common frog (Rana temporaria). This mainly nocturnal frog lives in woodlands close to streams or in other wetlands, hunting and feeding on small invertebrates. It is largely terrestrial, although it requires moist conditions and must return to the water to breed. During winter it hibernates in muddy marshes or deeply embedded in the soil. The common frog is found throughout much of Europe | |
