Reticulated erythema on a patient's lower leg. During cold seasons, prolonged exposure to electric heaters results in reticulated erythema and pigmentation of the skin. The heat causes capillaries under the skin to dilate, causing the skin to flush. Over time this causes pigmentation of the skin. The area of skin affected may also be dry and itchy. This condition known as erythema ab igne is also referred to as toasted skin syndrome | |
