Bumper to bumper traffic is incurred as Los Alamos residents are mandatorily evacuated on 26 June 2011 because of the threatening Las Conchas wildfire burning 12 miles south of Los Alamos. The Las Conchas Fire was a 2011 wildfire in New Mexico,USA,which started on June 26 in Santa Fe National Forest and burned more than 150,000 acres,threatening Los Alamos National Laboratory and the town of Los Alamos. It became the largest wildfire in New Mexico state history. Los Alamos National Laboratory was closed. Los Alamos was the birthplace of the atomic bomb during the Manhattan Project in the Jemez Mountains west of Santa Fe,NM. The fire was 100% contained on August 3,2011 | |
