Smoke from the Las Conchas Fire blankets the Jemez Mountains and the city of Los Alamos,New Mexico in front of Fire Station #4 near the golf course on Diamond Drive. The Las Conchas Fire was a 2011 wildfire in New Mexico,USA,which started on June 26 in Santa Fe National Forest and burned more than 150,000 acres,threatening Los Alamos National Laboratory and the town of Los Alamos. It became the largest wildfire in New Mexico state history. Los Alamos residents were mandatorily evacuated. Los Alamos National Laboratory was closed. Los Alamos was the birthplace of the atomic bomb during the Manhattan Project in the Jemez Mountains west of Santa Fe,NM. The fire was 100% contained on August 3,2011 | |
